Tributes flooded social media after Carla Heaton, who played for Cirencester Town Ladies Football Club, died suddenly at the age of 22.

“It is with great sadness to say our goalkeeper Carla Heaton has suddenly passed away,” the club wrote on Twitter.

“We are all lost for words but what we can say is how much of a beautiful person you was inside and out. We all miss you and Thank you for all the memories. RIP our number 1🧤⚽️ @Carla_Heaton_GK.”

After spending most of her young career at Swindon Town Women, the side said they would be honouring their former team during their FA Cup second round against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday, November 27.

Town’s captain Alice Bowden called Heaton “a great player, but also a great person” and hoped her side “can do [Carla] proud” during the FA Cup clash at the weekend.

“It’s going to be for Carla,” she said.

The cause of her death is currently unknown.

Hundreds of tributes were paid to the young talented footballer.

Former club Swindon Town wrote: “It’s with great sadness that the club has learned the tragic news that our former goalkeeper Carla Heaton has passed away at the tender age of just 22.”
