The Colombian Football Federation announced on Tuesday, November 29, that young defensive midfielder Andrés Balanta died suddenly after feeling unwell in training.

The young Colombian footballer, who had been on loan to Atlético Tucuman (Argentina) since the summer, died suddenly of a suspected heart attack at the age of 22.

Balanta, who was on loan from Colombian champions Deportivo Cali, collapsed during training on Tuesday, November 29.

According to local reports, emergency CPR was performed on the young footballer before an ambulance arrived.

However, paramedics were unable to revive the player who died a few minutes later on the way to the hospital.

Tucuman staff told local reporters that Balanta “fell during the warm-up, we brought him in urgently, in two minutes they gave him an hour of cardiac resuscitation but they could not get him out of there.”

Andrés Balanta played at both the U17 and U19 World Cup for his country.
