The Yorktown Police Department in New York shared the tragic news that Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi had died suddenly following an unexpected illness.

Yorktown Police Department Chief, Robert Noble, took to Facebook to announce that Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi had died after suffering a sudden illness.

“It is with profound sadness, pain and hurt that we share the loss of our brother, Lieutenant Kenneth Sgroi,” the police chief wrote.

“Kenny took ill very suddenly in the last 48 hours. He fought valiantly and hard, but succumbed to his illness last night, January 2, 2023 at approximately 8pm. Kenny was an outstanding police officer. An even better man.”

He added: “Lieutenant Sgroi leaves behind a wife and two very young children. We love them very much. They are OUR family.

“We thank the Yorktown community in advance for your patience, understanding and support in the days, weeks and months that will follow.

“While our hearts are heavy, we will continue to do our work in the most professional manner. It is what Lieutenant Sgroi would have expected. We will share viewing and funeral arrangements when we have them.

“Rest easy and in peace, Kenny. We’ll take it from here.”

The news of the police lieutenant’s sudden death comes after Brockton Police from Massachusetts sadly announced the “untimely passing” of 48-year-old officer Sean Besarick.
