Professor Stuart McCutcheon, the popular and well-respected former head of the University of Auckland (New Zealand), died suddenly on Friday, January 6, according to reports.

The Vice-Chancellor of Auckland University in New Zealand revealed that Professor Stuart McCutcheon had died suddenly at the age of 68 via a statement.

”It is with deep sadness that I advise that former Vice-Chancellor and UniServices Chairman Emeritus Professor Stuart McCutcheon died suddenly today,” Dawn Freshwater said.

“This is a profound shock for us all. The University extends its heartfelt sympathy to Stuart’s wife Deborah and family, and asks that our community respect the family’s wishes for privacy at this sad time.”

Before joining the university, McCutcheon was the head of Victoria University of Wellington.

McCutcheon stepped down from the role of university head in 2020 after being in the job was 15 years.
